OBITUARY

Jackson Cornell Powers On June 25, 2004, Jackson Cornell Powers passed away in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Born in Fredericktown on May 7, 1928, he was the son of Andrew Jackson and Iva Rebecca Cornell Powers. Jack is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Anne Louise Gelder Powers; his daughter, Rebecca Anne Powers; and his son, Charles Andrew Powers. He has one granddaughter, Jenna Gregg Powers. Jack moved his family to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1959. He was a firefighter and false alarm investigator for the Baltimore City Fire Department for 26 years. He retired in 1985 when he and Anne moved to Treasure Island, Florida. Jack became a part of the community wherever he lived. While in Treasure Island he became a friendly fixture at the local hardware store. He was a member of the Isle of Palms Civic Association and a founding member of Island Community Theatre. He served the City of Treasure Island on several boards including Land Development Regulations and Planning & Zoning. June 23, 2001, was proclaimed "Jack & Anne Powers Day" by the City Commission of Treasure Island recognizing the positive influence they had on the area's evolution. In October of 2001, he retired again and moved to the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity for more than 50 years and served as Worshipful Master of Beallsville Lodge 237 in 1958. He was a dual member of Gulf Beaches Lodge 291, Madeira Beach Florida; Elizabethtown High Twelve Club; Egypt Temple Shrine; York Rite Bodies of Tampa; and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Tampa. He was a 33rd-degree Mason of the Southern Jurisdiction. Jack has made his transition and his ashes will be interred on June 23, 2005, in Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, Pennsylvania.
